A Hobby Review of 2020

It's fair to say that 2020 has been unusual. I count myself hugely lucky that things outside of my hobbying have been relatively safe, secure and stable, and my best wishes are with those who have had a much more challenging year. I've marked the end of the year with a hobby review for several years now by looking back at my ambitions and plans for the year, and whether or not they came to fruition. It's pretty obvious to state that most of these plans had to be dropped. My Necromunda campaign was postponed just a few games in, and BOYL (my favourite gaming weekend event) was quite correctly cancelled.

I have managed steady, regular painting and modelling sessions, but the changes to work and leisure time (particularly with the entire family at home, most of the time) has meant fewer opportunities. That said, I'm still pleased with my output for the year.

I started off the year by finishing my Venator gang for the (aborted) Necromunda campaign. I then tackled some 2000AD Strontium Dogs, before spending some time with some sinister black-clad Inquisitional forces. I had a lot of fun with some new Necromunda buildings and my Lone Wolf Citadel Guard. In between there were plenty of oddities and aliens to add some nice variety!

To finish off this review, here's a brief look at the traditional chart. I did manage to paint 104 things over the course of the year. Some way short of recent years, but a pretty respectable output considering. I did also manage to tick a few bucket-list figures off too, with several Rogue Trader adventurers getting painted during 2020.

I'm hoping for a better 2021 and will certainly be aiming to make the most of the opportunities to meet and play with friends that we weren't able to take this year. Wishing you all a good festive period and a better 2021 too!

  1. Fun and varied output Axiom, pretty much all with your signature, well thought out modifications.

The City Guard are probably my favourite of the year, but more due to my current gaming interests than anything else.

See you in 2021 I hope!

    1. Thanks cheetor! I've got to be honest, a nice variety really does keep my interest levels up. Really hoping to be able to use the Citadel Guard on the table.

Fingers crossed we do get that meet up in 2021.

  2. Fantastic. I'm not sure if I really want to look at my 2020 stats, but for sure are quite below yours. Your output is awesome by all means. I love every single project. Here's to a better 2021! Happy new year!

    1. Thanks Suber, a happy New Year to you too! I reckon your scifi townscape is easily equivalent of my output for the year though, there's so much planning and work in that project alone!

  3. " ... a pretty respectable output ... " is an understatement in my books :) You did well seeing how this year generally panned out, pandemic and all. Here's wishing you better year in 2021.
