Back in 2018 I managed to acquire two prototype hardfoam 40k buildings. They've been a staple in my gaming collection, and I've thoroughly enjoyed using them. About 18 months later, I was lucky enough to source the third and final prototype building from this set. Typically it has sat in a box until last week when I decided I wanted something quick and fun to paint up.
The rough and ready finishing on the building lends itself to a similarly scrappy paintjob, so it was nice to get in with some big brushes and not have to be too precise. It's not the most exiting paintjob in the world, but terrain to my mind needs to provide a backdrop for figures, not take the focus.
Most importantly though, I'm really happy to have finally completed the trio of buildings!
Nice!
ReplyDeleteCheers :)
DeleteGlad you were able to snag this, and a great paint job and concept for it. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteReminds me, I need a backdrop for my picture taking…
Thanks Hobbs! Backdrops are invaluable - I always think I need a couple more!!
DeleteVery nice indeed - it's an interesting model and the paint job is dark but not drab. Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks Toby. There's some nice playability with the rooftop elements.
DeleteFits in well with the rest of your dingy scenics really well. You little town grows and grows further.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai! It's turning into a proper seedy downtown ;)
DeleteWow I love these buildings. In these days we should ask a 3d-designer for some rebuldings in this style.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be at all surprised if there was an STL out there in the same vein!
DeleteI have exactly the same building in my possession. I bought it on eBay a couple of years ago, but mine is painted in Eavy Metal style. Thanks to you, I finally know the building was a GW prototype. Does anyone know if the building was featured in any of GW's official publications?
ReplyDeleteReally interesting to hear there are others out there! I know of a couple of sets in resin that some ex-GW guys have in their collections. The only publication I know of which featured any of the buildings was the 'How to Make Wargames Terrain' book, published by GW in 2003. There is 1 photo of the smaller hab without the roof tank.
