"The Force runs strong in this family" - Olley x the Skywalkers

After all those Imperials before Christmas, it was high time to revisit the rebels, and what better way to do it than with the Skywalkers.

Once again, both of these figures are based on Bob Olley sculpts, although I have modified them both.

Leia was originally an Alternative Armies sidhe. The original figure wears a cape and long tabard, but has a bare chest and limbs. I sculpted the missing skirt elements and sleeves, removed her sword and shield, and added a pistol from a Kryomek figure.

Luke is based on an old Metal Magic townsfolk figure, currently available through Midlam Miniatures. I liked how close the outfit was to Luke's Tatooine costume, even down the the bucket hat from the deleted scenes. I removed the pitchfork from the left arm, repositioning it and adding a new lightsaber. After taking the pics below, I also added the goggles and the macrobinoculars at the waist to tie the figure further into the setting.

Painting Leia was very quick and easy - a white outfit and brown hair! The white was done with the same contrast paints as the Storm Troopers.

Luke was painted in off-whites, browns and creams, going off film stills as reference. I don't think there's a scene where he is simultaneously wearing his hat and wielding his lightsaber, but it could have happened!

With this pair done, I can start to work on some of the other rebel characters!

  1. Great stuff! Luke is definitely instantly recognisable - with Leia, were you tempted to do the iconic hair with the side scroll/buns?

    1. Thanks! I did consider the buns, but I didn't think the effort would give significantly improved results (and believe me, removing all that hair and resulting the cloth folds would have taken ages!!).

I've enjoyed watching the Stormtroopers and villains take shape and look forward to seeing the rebels too!
