I spent the week painting up another small group of Bob Olley sculpts for my not-rebel commandos. This time it's another pair of late-1980s Iron Claw space pirates, plus a Kryomek alien. They're starting to look like a nice-sized strike force for destroying bunkers, comms relays and such!
I think these three fit nicely with the group and the general retro-scifi vibe:
The two Iron Claw space pirates are Venk (confusingly also called Nixan in some of the catalogues) and Loritta (aka Cybergirl).
Venk has a particularly cool helmet that I added a few markings to. I was going to paint his cloak with a camo scheme, but all the folds would have made that pretty tricky!
Finally is a nice alien addition I'm calling Asrak Krum. The figure is one of the galactic citizens from the old Kryomek range. I bought a bunch of these figures from MSD Games in the US a few years ago - I'll paint them all up eventually. I wish I'd picked up more of the range as MSD sadly no longer ship to the UK.
If this isn't a Star Wars-inspired Olley sculpt, I don't know what is! |
That's three more down, with several more cool figures to come!
It's a real delight to see a full Olley band like this one, I love the element of surprise when painting them as you never truly know what to expect
ReplyDeleteThanks! If find that there's often something I need to repaint with the early Olley sculpts as the organic style can merge details. That said, they're well worth persevering with!
