Graffiti, Posters & Rust - Urban Walls

Following on from my last post a couple of weeks ago, it was apparent that if I had some gates and entrances, I would also need some blank walls.

Once again, I roped in the talents of Graham at Grimsforge to make me some basic walls that I could put in between my other buildings. There are four walls - two long and two short. I painted one side with urban graffiti and posters, and the other side more neutrally to give me some backdrop flexibility.

The graffiti was done with ultra-fine Posca paint pens rather than the brush (thanks for the tip Graham!). It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to trying some more elaborate designs another time.

The neutral walls could be the inside of a private compound or even an interior setting. I limited the painting to picking out the cables, control panels etc. The stencilled E9 was added just for a little bit of visual interest.

I know walls aren't the most interesting element in a terrain collection, but there's no reason why they have to be boring either!

    1. Thanks Hobbs! I was trying to get a couple of easy and distinct settings with just a flip through 180 degrees 🙂

  2. They are more than interesting. They add a lot of depth to any board, I find them visually attractive as well as very useful in terms of gaming. I'm intrigued by the graffiti, as I've tried them with brushes and the results were... ahem, subject to possible improvement. Ahem. Yours look ace, I'm looking into those pens!
    Great, great job.

    1. Thanks Suber! I strongly recommend the pens - I bought a basic pack of 8 colours to give them a trial and I am very pleased with the results.

  3. Clever to make them have multiple uses. Really like these and your graffiti is very believable, not easy to do

    1. Thanks Dai. I just searched through images of grafitti and copied the ones I liked. I went for tags in the main as they were pretty easy to replicate!

  4. Really love them and everything you've painted from Graham. Out of all the hobbyists I follow, I think your collection is the one I would most like to own. The whole world you've built (I know it's cliche) just feels so lived in. Seriously can't wait to see the full city one day!

    1. Really kind of you to say so! Over the last 5 or 6 years or so I've really tried to ensure that most new things add to the same setting / collection - sounds like you think it's working!

    1. A blank walk is all very well, but I think a poster or bit of grafitti adds a whole lot of character 🙂
