Ever Had Trouble Finding Suitable Sci-Fi Civilians?

For a long time I've wanted a nice range of sci-fi civilians, but I've never found anything that quite hits the late 1980s sci-fi vibe I was after.

So eventually I bit the bullet, and have ended up involved in a mad-cap scheme to make some myself. The resulting 6 miniatures have been sculpted by Michael Anderson, based on concepts by Will Beck.

I'm delighted with the results and can't wait to have them cast and painted. Oh did I mention you could have some too?!

Feel free to check out the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/62661939/colony-87-28mm-sci-fi-civilians/

  1. Spotted this and pledged sight unseen – quite out of character! However, I'm very glad I did. They look *perfect*. Here's hoping it's a very successful Kickstarter.

    1. Thanks very much! I'm very excited to see these come to fruition after 6+ months of planning. I suspect they'll be a dream to paint!

  2. Oooooh, that's _you_! Sometimes I fail / forget to match real names and forum names. I have already backed. :)

  3. Done! Hopefully this goes well so we will see even more? Civilians are definitely under represented in scifi minis.

    1. The plan is to produce more if this one is a success. I've got a list of 20 or so models I'd love to make - functionaries and officials, industrial workers, street walkers and traders. I'd love to be able to eventually have a nice range to offer.

  4. Despite hating Kickstarter these are just so good I had to pledge for them all. Can't wait to receive them and hoping for more in the future!

    1. I know KS has it's issues and limitations, but it really was the best platform for me to launch the range I think. I've tried to structure the KS in a way that would appeal to me (simple, no complicated reward system or ever increasing stretch goals). This means it's focussed with a tight scope, and hopefully avoids all the pitfalls of delays / over-promising that some other KS projects suffer.

    2. The way you've gone about it is definitely the best way to do KS so I was happy to pledge.

Also I can't wait to see the rest of the range develop - this is exactly what I would do if I had the money so I'm very excited to see where it goes. :)

  5. Very cool! Are these going to be part of a continuing range, or are they going to be a "one off" where once the KS is fulfilled, they are OOP?

    1. Hopefully a continuing range. I've already drawn up a list for a wave 2 and I'd like to launch these post KS if at all possible.
