Urban / Industrial Scatter

I'm always on the lookout for new scatter elements to add to my terrain collection. I recently painted up a dozen items or so in preparation for the Five Parsecs From Home weekend. No hero pieces here, but it's all useful nice stuff!

These barricades are from the Marvel Crisis Protocol Cosmic Terrain Pack. You get 4 in a pack, but I picked up another set of 4 from an eBay seller as I figured 8 will be much more useful. They got my standard approach of grey plus some detailing, then drybrushed and stippled weathering.

The graffiti was done using ultra fine Posca paint markers - so much easier than brushes! The posters are just printed out and stuck on with PVA.

I added graffiti and some posters on one side...

...but kept the other side plain for photoshoot variety.

The four lights below are also from the Cosmic Terrain Pack. I rushed the light effect so I may revisit that at some point. They also work nicely on the top of buildings as comms arrays.

These last 4 pieces are 3D printed industrial scatter that a mate kindly sent me. They're great prints - perfect for a little industrial compound, or to tech up an adobe homestead.

  1. Fantastic work on all the pieces! Love how the graffiti has been shaping up, you really have a knack for it. I think my favorite is the underground vault. So mysterious with it's locked red door...

    1. Thanks Hobbs! I'm loving playing around with the graffiti - it's fun to do, easy to research and I think it really helps add some depth to the pieces.

As for what's behind that red door - definitely a scenario to be played around that mystery!

  2. Very nice work. I like the use of colours, as city scatter terrain can look a bit too grey. The graffiti is very well done!

    1. Thanks Toby. I think colours on terrain are always an interesting balance - too few and it looks bland, too many and it can detract from the miniatures. I've stuck to a pretty limited palette for my urban terrain - grey with red and yellow spot colours. Seems to work!

    2. It definitely works! I've found it hard to introduce colours, especially in fantasy terrain, where things tend to be brown or grey, I like the weathering, too.

  3. Cool! I'm taking a look into the grafitti trick -I've tried grafitti myself with brushes and he results have always been... discouraging. Pretty nice scenery pieces all over!

    1. I very much recommend using paint pens for graffiti. My brush attempts have also generally been discouraging!!
