Cyberpunk Combat Zone - Danger Gals Gang

It's my good friend cheetor's 50th birthday in a few weeks time. A group of us are heading to his place for a weekend of gaming, including a game that's new to me: Cyberpunk Danger Zone by Monster Fight Club. I'm going in to the game totally blind - I don't know the gameplay mechanics or strategies. I'm not even familiar with Cyberpunk as a genre! Nonetheless, I've obtained, built and painted a gang to allow me to participate.

I wanted to pick a faction that wasn't already being used by one of the other players, so the options available to me were Edgerunners (a catch-all gang made up of bounty hunters, rogue agents and oddballs) or Danger Gals (security agents with cat ears). I ended up plumping for the Danger Gals - the faction that was going to be simplest to use for a first timer.

The models above are from the Danger Gals Starter Gang set - a complete gang with character cards and other gang specific game cards (objectives, loot, gear etc). The models themselves are 35mm scale, but are more slight and finely detailed than the old Citadel figures I'm used to painting. These were all 2-piece (body plus separate head) and cast in siocast resin. Thankfully there were no major headaches with mouldlines or warped details.

With time at a premium in the lead up to the weekend, I needed a quick approach to painting these, so my usual techniques went out of the window. The process was:

  1. Spray undercoat black
  2. Zenithal spray Zandri dust
  3. Drybrush bone
  4. GW contrast paints for purple, pink, grey (hair) & black
  5. Blue wash for jeans
  6. Paint flesh as normal
  7. Spot highlights on black, pink, blue & hair
  8. Base as normal

All in all, I think it took about 4.5 hours for these seven figures from start to finish (excluding drying time). I'm pretty happy with the results to effort ratio!

L-R: Tigress, Mouse & Bengal

The little posters and flyers are from a free pdf I found online. I simply printed them off and glued them on with PVA.

L-R: Pantera, Doc Mittens, Agent in Charge, Lynx

I've also painted up a trio of gonks (sort of like juves in Necromunda I think). I'll share pics of those in the next blog post!

  1. Not at all bad for a quick and dirty gang. They look pretty nice. You said they were "35mm" but more finely proportioned than old Citadel 28s. How do they size up side by side? Is it completely unusable, or do they just look like tall people and short people? Anyway, lovely! Hope you and Cheetor and company have the grandest of grand times. :)

    1. Thanks for the feedback! The figures are about a head taller than classic Citadel, although the heads and hands and details are much smaller and finer. They might work better alongside more recent plastics, but I think I'd find them jarring against a 1980s Imperial Guardsman or space pirate!

  2. These are awesome! You’ve made them really stand out while still keeping a dark colour scheme. They totally scream cyberpunk, I love them

    1. Thanks Suber! I'm not really used to painting bright and poppy miniatures, so these are probably a little darker than I could (should?) have painted them!! Glad you think they fit the setting 🙂
