As you may have seen over at Leadplague or Sho3box, this year the WIPsters guaranteed each other at least one hobby related present this year, with a Secret Santa gift sharing.
My Santa recognised that vehicles have been a bit of a theme this year, and that I clearly needed more racers. I was therefore as excited as a 4 year old with a full stocking when I opened my present:
That's right - a mint in blister OOP Grenadier Future Warriors Lightning Strike Buggy!
You may recall that I painted one of these lovely little cars in the summer of 2016, but that one was missing a host of parts, including the front bumper, roll cage and driver. I also realise after comparing the two, that my previous version has two sets of rear wheels, instead of the smaller front pair.
|Lightning Strike Buggy swiftly tacked together.|
My plan was to build the new buggy unmodified, and to paint it with a contrasting colour scheme. I selected racing red, then weathered the paint job to hell and back!
In retrospect I wish I'd painted more definition between the red paintwork and rusty areas, but there's no going back now!
The white stripes were simply freehanded, whilst the numbers (to give it a racing feel) are decals.
And just for the sake of comparison, here's the two buggies side-by-side:
Of course, the real reason to have models like this in the first place, is so you can mock up little racing dioramas, right?!
|...it's the final turn, Rick Nitro is holding the lead and the crowd go WILD!!!...|
Thank you Secret Santa - a really enjoyable start to painting for 2017!
