The Water Tower

You know what it's like - you have a burst of energy making something, then it sits unloved on a shelf for 6 months.

I build this water tower ages ago, in about an hour. It's a simple construction from a tin can, some Necromunda bulkheads, plastic rod and a few resin details. And then it sat, gathering dust and occasionally falling on the floor when I knocked it. Until this week, that is!

The water tower was designed as an objective piece for Necromunda or similar. It's a unique, clearly identifiable piece of terrain that can be captured or blown up or whatever. I also wanted it to be loosely functional in game, so I added the middle platform (from the Hexagon platformers set), and tried to give line of sight to all sides to make a perfect sniper's nest.

Painting was really simple: prime grey, spray brown, sponge on a lighter brown, various washes, metal drybrush on 'worn' areas (ladder rungs etc). The water tank got a some white sponged on also, then washes over the top.

For the final touches, I painted the control pad with some glowing green lights, and added various graffiti and posters. No, I'm not really sure what the graffiti says!

Job done I think! I'll be using this in the first game back after Christmas.

  1. I could do with something similar myself, I may have a look in the drawers at home and see if i can find any of those old necromunda bulkheads

  4. Lovely bit ot rush for a table. I like the hole punched in the side through the rusty metal, aside from being useful, it also helps to make the whole thing look pretty decrepit.

    1. Thanks! No-one's mentioned the big finger print on the tank yet either, so I must have covered it up OK ;)
