You know what it's like - you have a burst of energy making something, then it sits unloved on a shelf for 6 months.
I build this water tower ages ago, in about an hour. It's a simple construction from a tin can, some Necromunda bulkheads, plastic rod and a few resin details. And then it sat, gathering dust and occasionally falling on the floor when I knocked it. Until this week, that is!
The water tower was designed as an objective piece for Necromunda or similar. It's a unique, clearly identifiable piece of terrain that can be captured or blown up or whatever. I also wanted it to be loosely functional in game, so I added the middle platform (from the Hexagon platformers set), and tried to give line of sight to all sides to make a perfect sniper's nest.
Painting was really simple: prime grey, spray brown, sponge on a lighter brown, various washes, metal drybrush on 'worn' areas (ladder rungs etc). The water tank got a some white sponged on also, then washes over the top.
For the final touches, I painted the control pad with some glowing green lights, and added various graffiti and posters. No, I'm not really sure what the graffiti says!
Job done I think! I'll be using this in the first game back after Christmas.
I could do with something similar myself, I may have a look in the drawers at home and see if i can find any of those old necromunda bulkheads
ReplyDeleteI expect to see a full-blown refinery before the end of the year WP! I know how fast you work when you set your mind to it ;)
DeleteWhat a great idea. I have some old Necromunda bulkheads knocking around and now I know what I'll be doing with them!
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Sounds like I should have applied for a patent ;)
DeleteTop bit of junkhammer mate, that weathering is bloody good!
ReplyDeleteJunkhammer! Love it :)
DeleteLovely bit ot rush for a table. I like the hole punched in the side through the rusty metal, aside from being useful, it also helps to make the whole thing look pretty decrepit.
ReplyDeleteThanks :) The hole did take a bit of gouging, but it was worth it!
DeleteMournfang Brown spray and Skrag Brown sponging?
ReplyDeletePrecisely so :)
DeleteNicking that combo!
DeleteHehe, I know the feeling :) Pretty nice work out of scratch, looks totally in the right mood.
ReplyDeleteYou've got some great terrain in your collection! I regularly check for ideas!
DeleteNicely done.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

ReplyDeleteSomething that I should have done myself many years ago, very practical and nicely realised work.
These things generally turn out to be quicker and easier than expected. Glad you like it!
DeleteSuch simple parts to combine to make a thoroughly convincing terrain piece. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! No-one's mentioned the big finger print on the tank yet either, so I must have covered it up OK ;)
DeleteA wonderful looking water tower, impressive and superb...
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I'm pleased with how it turned out!
DeleteI like it. I need to build myself some terrain.
ReplyDeleteIt took me years to get started. But I still need more ;)
DeleteLove the tower ... it looks very realistic.
ReplyDeleteNice work as usual :)
Oh yes ... a Merry Christmas to you axiom!!! :)
And a merry Christmas to you too! :)
DeleteNicely done. Love the control panel, posters, rust, and graffiti. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. :)
