Friskers Painted

If you've been keeping tabs on this blog, I probably don't need to tell you that over the last 9 months or so I've been steadily collecting Citadel's mid-1980s Eternal Champion range, based on Michael Moorcock's brilliant novels. It is my intention (eventually) to paint up the full range and do a bit of fantasy skirmish gaming.

As part of assembling the collection, I commissioned my friend and ace sculptor John Pickford to sculpt me a little winged cat (let's call him Friskers), who could represent a certain animal familiar to accompany Elric's companion Jhary a-Conel. Citadel's Jhary sculpt already had a very similar winged cat on his shoulder, representing Whiskers from the Elric books. But I foresaw the need for an independent winged cat, hence the Frisker sculpt.

I painted up my Friskers last night - here's the results:

Original Art - Part 6: Rogue Trader & Confrontation by Martin McKenna

I started my collection of GW original artwork by tracking down Eldar-themed pieces, but sometimes opportunities come along which just require a broadening of horizons. Last year I made contact with Martin McKenna and was offered a wide selection of pieces, including Rogue Trader, WFRP and others besides. Martin's style is very precise, often with great attention to the expressions of the characters he's drawing. After much consideration, I decided purchase three of Martin's lovely pieces, this being the first:

Back in the dying days of 2013, I took a look at my hobby achievements for the year. Given that summer solstice or midsummer is nearly upon us, I thought it would be a good opportunity to reflect on my ambitions for 2014, and my progress towards them.

Brattish Behaviour: Flack Scorgull

I did a very teeny-tiny bit of hobby activity last night to finished off the base of the latest addition to my Brat gang, Flack Scorgull.

Toting a finely crafted lasgun, Flack is renowned for his edgy haircut, combining a long floppy fringe (dyed pink of course), with a stiff extravagent rear crest, said to be inspired by the shape of the feathered scorgulls which nest in cliff-like areas of the Hive ventilation shafts.

Underhive Terrain: Playing With Hexagons

During my current search for decent Necromundan Underhive terrain, I kept seeing tantalising references to a couple of systems by Conflix called Platformer and Hexagon. I'm not sure if these are still being produced, as my search to find a UK stockist was incredibly frustrating. However, I managed to track down a single Hexagon small box at 4TK Gaming (see what they did there?) for £6.30. At the price, I thought it was worth a punt, and the box duly arrived last week:

 

Brattish Behaviour: WIP Guys & Molls / Underhive Terrain

What does any self respecting Brat need? That's right, an adoring girl to tell him how great he looks. After all, if people aren't telling you how great you look all the time, then what's the point in spending hours perfecting your newest quiff or the perfect place for that diamante beauty spot?

 

First up is a new addition to the gang, based on a the very nice 'My Hero' figure by Hasslefree Miniatures. I'm a sucker for little dioramas on a small base, and this figure was just crying out to have something done to it!

 

 

Brattish Behaviour: Enter the Thin White Duke

"Lookit 'im!" thought Gurf, as he trained his lasrifle sights onto one of the more flamboyant members of the Brat gang picking their way past the vaporators. "Fancy ponce wiv 'is white togs."

The Brat was clearly sporting a highly fashionable outfit; a blindingly white, tight-waisted coat with high collar and tails, lined with bright orange, teamed with skin tight trews buckled along the length of the seams. Turquoise lace dripped out from his cuffs, while jewels and precious metals casually dangled and glimmered. The Brat was wearing a tall, stiff hairdo, dyed unnaturally pink, while in his right hand he was casually twirling a jet-black cane.

Gurf steadied his aim and tensed his trigger finger. He never even saw Rhett d'Arquin's power blade as it slashed across the back of his neck.
