Ash Waste Nomads - Ready For The Underhive

I know I'm a week late, but I'm very pleased to say that my Ash Waste Nomads gang is ready for week 2 of my Necromunda campaign. The gang isn't complete per se (I still have the other two Marauder Nomads, a couple of conversions and their crawler to complete), but it is a playable starting gang of 9 models.

Here are the two latest additions to the gang: Haytham, a heavy with a plasma gun; and Juda, a Juve with nothing but a knife and an autopistol.

Haytham is a conversion from one of the early 2000s Gaunt's Ghosts Imperial Guard. I sculpted some baggier trousers over his tight leggings, and some layered sleeves over his bare arms. I also added the headscarf and respirator (cable was from Zinge Industries), as well as the hat from Warlord Games.

Juda is an unconverted Rogue Trader Adventurer. He looks a bit ragged compared to the other Nomads - perhaps he got lost in the Ash Wastes for a few days?

As befits a senior member of the Nomad tribe, Haytham got some fancy little embellishments on his sleeves and cloak. The glowing turquoise plasma coil is a new addition to the colour pallette on the Nomads, but I figure with the heavily saturated yellow and blue, it would be fine.

Juda's colour scheme is a bit toned down from the other Nomads - mainly so that he can be used a little less jarringly as an adventurer in other settings / scenarios. I must confess, I really didn't enjoy painting Juda - although the concept for the model is great (gunslinging bandit), he suffers from the curse which afflicts many figures of his vintage: dodgy anatomy and questionable sculpting. The various layers over his face (hat, hood, neckerchief) also don't help, as there's barely any of his face visible to act as a focal point.

Nevertheless, the gang is now ready for some action. And the first event of note for the fully painted gang is tonight's scenario - to rescue poor old Imen who was captured last week!

The Nomads of the Cobalt Flats Caravan move into position to rescue their comrade from the Redemptionists' hideout.

  3. Very nice work, and the conversions to the Gaunt's Ghost gunner bring him in line with the other nomads nicely.

  4. Lots of fun, sort of mad hippy nomads with plasma guns.

  5. Happily the plasma gunner didn't suffer the usual fate of newly painted models and was actually the star of the game (4 wounding hits) last night. Sadly I still lost! Still, the Nomads have retreated to their ash waste home (a combination of steich and El Dorado perhaps) to lick their wounds :)

    Glad you like them!

Looking forward to hearing how the rescue mission ended ;)

    1. In summary, my gang was spotted by sentries early in the game and there was a stalemate - I couldn't advance into the area where the captive was held without being shot to bits. In spite of gunning down my opponent's reinforcements, I failed my first bottle test and legged it...without my captured ganger :(

And my poor earnings mean I'm some way off being able to afford to replace him!
