One of the best things about this hobby is finding the perfect use for a figure that you've wanted to use for ages. I've had Jes Goodwin's mutant ogre kicking around my boxes for a long time, but never really found the perfect project for it. Happily, that's now changed and he's going to see use as a possessed (with spines) in my Nurglite warband.
The sculpt is pretty perfect (apart from having a reputation as a mould-ripper due to all the spikes). It's smaller than more modern ogres and has a lovely hunched posture.
He has come out with some more pink notes as most of the other minis have more clothing, but I'm happy with the results!
A very lovely painted version of the Chaos Ogre. I like the green hair next to the pallid flesh tone, it compliments the red spines nicely. The pink rawness of the flesh near the spines is a nice detail. The painting gives an almost gives it a fairy tale feel, and ties in with the rest of the war band nicely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee! There are some nice Paul Bonner fantasy paintings that I was thinking of when I was painting this guy - they have both that fairytale and sinister vibe that perhaps comes through on the model? The green hair was something I wasn't 100% on. In the end I sought some feedback and intensified the shading on the hair, which seemed to do the trick! Cheers 🙂
DeleteNever seen this sculpt before, but I really like it and feel it fits perfectly with the aesthetic of the team so far. Your palette for this brute is excellent. As Lee mentioned, the pink around the spines is a perfect touch and personally I'm deffo on board for the green hair - reminds me of my latest punkrock teens when I died my own hair a similar shade!
ReplyDeleteThe figure didn't have as much longevity as the other ogres in the same range - probably because it was tricky to cast with all the spikes. Thanks!
DeleteI'm not a big fan of the reddish spikes but man this is a cool model !
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting - the red spikes are my favourite bit 😄
DeleteWe agree that it's a cool model though!
