Itchy Scabs - More Scavvies

Three more scavvies to swell the ranks. This time its another trio of unreleased Jes Goodwin sculpts. Once again brilliant figures and really enjoyable to paint with all the layered rags and fun accessories.

I haven't done anything to these figures other than paint them. It did take a bit of thinking to come up with variant colour placement, given that they are variant sculpts of both the other three unreleased sculpts and the armless scavvies that were on general release!

Once again I went for dull browns, greys and blacks, livened up with the jade green and yellow.

The six unreleased sculpts have a great presence when you group them together. They look horribly infectious and really intimidating!

I thought it might be interesting to show all of the variant sculpts side by side:

The general-release armless scavvy is on the left (and is still my favourite with his snarling rebreather mask. The lower halves on all three figures are identical.

The released variant is on the right here and is almost unrecognisable from the unreleased sculpts which have wider stances and much more detail. The little pouch and lucky dangling scrap of fur on the right hips are pretty much the only elements that are common to all three variants.

The released sculpt is on the left. It almost feels as if these three are advancements of the same character over time - he's become more grizzled, lost an eye, but has acquired some better gear!

I've still got another 3-4 figures planned for this gang, including the scavvy king. I'm hoping to get them finished in the next month or so.

  1. A fine addition to the gang !
I'm asking myself this audition for a bit. What do you mean by unreleased ? If unreleased how did you get them ?
    Thanks for the answer !

    1. Thank you very much! Unreleased figures were never on sale to the public. Some were trainee sculpts, some had technical issues (e.g. they wouldn't fit into packaging, had casting issues etc.). Some are from projects that got terminated.

I've been collecting unreleased sculpts for 20+ years - there used to be a pretty small collecting market, and most people had connections to GW staff in one way or another. These days you can pick up unreleased sculpts on places like ebay, but there are a little of recast around so buy with caution!!

    2. Thank you for the answer ! So they were casted but not sold officially and this is those few casts that you gathered.
I must confess I'm not fan enough of oldhammer to chase unreleased minis, they are already too many released and yet to be kitbashed but it's a pleasure to see them here.

    3. Yes, you're exactly right. Made and cast, but only in small quantities and never sold. Some of them are very hard to track down too 😄

  2. Those look great! I love the colors you use -- they look properly scavenger, post-apoc like indeed...

    1. Thanks Mike! I like the contrast of the dingy colours with the bright(er) sea-green and yellow.

  4. Really nice models. The painting is great. I've been painting some old Escher models and I'm just amazed at the quality of Goodwin's sculpting.
