Hunting for Loot & Bounty - A Stargrave Pathfinder

The final member of my Cold Trader's Stargrave crew is a Pathfinder. I'm a big fan of ranger-types in any warband - there's something about the kind of character that wears a long coat or cloak and carries a bow or long rifle that really appeals to me. I'm not sure how effective a Pathfinder will be in Stargrave, but I couldn't resist including the archetype.

My Pathfinder ticks all of the requisite stylistic boxes, being clad in a long coat and armed with a fancy long-ranged rifle. The figure is made from an early 2000s ash wastes nomad from the short-lived Specialist Games Necromunda range. I kept the left hand, but decided to rework the right arm (the original was waving above his head).

The rifle is from a Gorkamorka mutie accessory sprue, and I sculpted the hand and arm around it. The resulting pose is very similar to one of the Jes Goodwin Eldar scouts/rangers, which I take as a good sign!

I decided to add a backpack after taking this pic.

I decided that the Pathfinder needed a more discrete outfit than his crewmates, so went for a dark grey coat. The standard crew 'uniform' of light brown bodysuit and blue mag boots is just peeking out underneath!

Here's the whole 10-strong Stargrave crew:

The crew comprises:

  • Captain Johannes Krail (Rogue background)
  • First Mate Jeong (Veteran background)
  • Pathfinder
  • Gunner
  • 2 Troopers
  • 2 Q-Bots
  • 2 Ravaged

Hopefully I'll share some in-game pics in the next blogpost.

  1. Very nice! I remember those ash wastes models, although I've never seen one painted before. Really good sculpting on that arm!

    1. Thanks Toby. I think the only painted examples I've seen are the studio ones. I wasn't that keen on them at the time, but the sculpt was nice and crisp and fun to paint. Glad you like the arm!

  2. Never got to see these in the flesh. Very nice sculpt and I like the mod to his arm - a very natural pose. Great looking team, I hope they fare well ingame!

    1. Thanks Dai. I wish I'd paid better attention to them when they were available myself. They're now virtually impossible to get hold of. Fingers crossed they perform OK!

  3. That's just so cool! Not only the conversion is great, but the paintjob totally suits the model. Pretty awesome!

    1. Thanks Suber! I wanted the paint scheme to look practical and no-nonsense. 🙂

  5. A lovely conversion (although I'd have gone for a more Sinon from SAO/GGO look). The way you've painted the eyes make her look female; I think it's the khol.

    1. I know what you mean about the eyes. Possibly the high cheekbones too? I guess the big black coat and mask add to the mystery.
