As mentioned in my previous post, I'm currently prepping a crew for Stargrave. Most of the scenarios in the game are loot-grabs, so every game needs a selection of suitable loot counters. Loot comes in two different types: physical (crates, ammo, valuable items etc) and data (floppy discs and memory sticks).
For my data loot tokens I bought a bunch of little doodads from a bits reseller. I think they might be some kind of mine from a Space Marine kit, but I figured they'd do as little data caches.
I went for something a little bit more exotic for my physical loot tokens - a selection of weird alien artefacts from the Colony 87 range by Crooked Dice.
Painting on both was super quick - basecoat, wash shade, drybrush highlight. I did spent a few extra moments painting the data cores and key pads on the data tokens. I also made sure that the tokens were clearly identifiable by painting the data loot red and the physical loot green. No excuses for anyone who tries to open a data token with chiseller or a physical token with a hacker!
Really cool - they look suitably strange and sci-fi. The artefacts have a nice almost-jade, almost-marble feel.
ReplyDeleteThanks Toby! I wonder if I should have gloss varnished them? That would have made them even more exotic!
DeleteThat's not a bad idea. That sort of slightly shiny varnish (is it called "satin"?) might work well, too.
DeleteGood idea- satin might work.
DeleteThose will stand out during a game. Hope you can play soon and show us how it went
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai! Just a couple of weeks to go until I get some games in. I'll definitely take pics.
DeleteThey all are pretty interesting pieces, and quite versatile. Nice paintjob!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suber!
DeleteSimple as the highlights may be, they certainly bring out the details on the tokens so very well.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Sometimes quick and simple is the right approach 🙂
