Recruiting for the Citadel Guard - More Mordheim Additions

In my first post about my Lone Wolf Citadel Guard Mordheim / Frostgrave / generic fantasy skirmish project, I covered the first five models of the warband. I was hoping to round the warband out to a solid ten-strong, but have instead just completed another three models. Don't worry though, I have plans for at least another eleven models, including wizards, rangers, swordsmen, something smaller and something bigger!

This time round I've painted up a further trio of Guardsmen - a second champion, another halberdier and a swordsman:

All three have been converted to a degree - headswaps on the halberdier and champion and a much more involved conversion on the swordsman.

The swordsman started out as the Citadel C01 fighter below. I did a head swap, sculpted the leather jerkin, knee armour and boot tops. The shield boss was a greenstuff cast from a shield I found in my bits box.

In terms of painting, these new additions follow the same colour scheme as the previous figures - yellow and blue with plenty of metallics and dark brown leather.

The two champions side by side. I like that the heads give them quite different characters in spite of the otherwise identical poses.

I added some visual interest on the swordsman's shield with some painted cuts and scratches, as well as painting on the metal rim.

Again, a head swap means these two have different personalities, in spite of their identical pose.

Incidentally, after I finished painting the swordsman, I shared the pic with a couple of "friends". I realised that there was an irritating mould line on his helmet, so I filled it.

Curis helpfully suggested I should also fill the scratches on the shield.

And pointed out some flash that I should remove from the sides of the helmet.
Asslessman suggested I needed to fill that annoying texture on the base.

Curis responded by suggesting that the base wasn't particularly suitable for Necromunda.

And whilst I was at it, I should add a lightning claw and take pics that better represented my workspace.

Thanks for the feedback fellas!

With that nonsense out of the way, he's how the warband currently looks. From a purely visual perspective I think they look like a tough, disciplined and experienced group. I wouldn't fancy messing with them!

I'm hoping to get round to the wizards for the next blog - fingers crossed!

They were already close to perfect but sometimes you just need that extra push ;)

  2. Really clever how identical sculpts can be modified so simply to create brand new characters in a unit. Very nicely done sir and thoroughly looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for this lot.

    1. A head swap is by far the best way to change the look of a miniature I think. After all, Citadel made variants for decades with just a simple head swap! Glad you like these :)

  5. Why do these guys always make me think of a Monty Python sketch?

Especially when they're standing behind that barricade...

    1. Absolutely! You really don't want a mace applied to the head with brute force!
