The Alien Delegation Arrives - Space Slann

A pair of officials waited nervously in the disembarkation hall. They ignored the pilgrims, merchants and leisure travellers. They were here to greet a more distinguished visitor. The diplomatic talks with the xenos emissary, Barcoon Krobosh, would profoundly impact on the future prosperity of the Colony.

Newly off the painting table are a trio of aliens which have probably evolved from amphibious ancestors. First up is Barcoon Krobosh, the Amphiran Emissary from Colony 87 miniatures. This wonderful high-ranking alien was sculpted by Michael Anderson and is bedecked with ornaments of office.

I painted Barcoon Krobosh using two reference points. The first is my original Slann which I painted over 10 years ago. I always liked the deep red skin with blue, white and gold.

2017 on the left and 2007 on the right.

The second reference was the painting of my good friend Asslessman. You may recall that when he painted his version of Barcoon Krobosh, he used my Slann Blood Bowl team for colour inspiration. In turn, I've selected some of Asslessmans favoured colours (cream, dark blue and a lovely pale grey-blue) for the colours in my interpretation of the same figure.

No alien emissary would be seen dead without some sort of entourage, so I pulled out a pair of my unpainted Space Slann to accompany him. I selected Sschoi and Llamas as to me they look most like bodyguards or footsoldiers.

Both figures got a colour scheme to match their master's, with the addition of exotic fur pelts over the shoulders.

I think they look pretty good as a group, even though I'm not happy with the way they've photographed. I certainly plan on expanding the delegation over the next few weeks.

  1. I love it, it makes perfect sense, the size of the figures, the style, it's specifically those differences that tie them together so well.
    Excellent.

    1. There's actually quite a wide variation in size of the Slann - these two are among the biggest, whereas the smallest look like juveniles compared to the emissary - I really like that about the set. Glad you like them all :)

    1. Thanks! I realise the red skin is very similar to that Spacelords punk you posted last year :)

  4. Nice work, and that skin color is great. Should be a great little group for your collection.

Now if only you knew the sculptor and could get a high tech body guard, or female savant, slave bearer, or cyborged beat stick sculpted to match. ;)

    1. Thanks! I hope it will be a larger group indeed, although probably more classic Citadel sculpts in the main.

I'd love to have other sculpts made, but it's a pretty niche desire!

    2. Niche maybe, but as part of a group of portsiders, it seems reasonable.

    3. If only I could make all my figure desires reality ;)

  5. Very nicely done: an effective colour scheme. Really like the pelts on the bodyguards, although you're probably in line for a Cease & Desist from PETA! Lastly, what's that signage lurking in the background of the first photo?!

    1. I expect my PETA objection any day!

The signs might well be in a future Colony 87 Kickstarter :)

  6. Lovely painting. I was worried for a second I thought that leader Barcoon Krobosh was the Gungan leader from Star Wars episode 1

    1. Thanks! I don't often do rich and intense schemes, so it was a nice change.
