Easing Back Into Things - Spacelords Pilot

After 3 weeks with practically zero hobby time, you'd think that I'd be eager to get back to painting. In fact, the reverse has been true - I've struggled to motivate myself to sit down and paint something. In order to try and get myself back into the groove, I decided to get a couple of relatively simple projects off the WIP shelf.

First up is a Spacelords starship pilot - a rather nice sculpt that I've had undercoated and ready for paint for over 12 months. After sitting so patiently on the shelf, I decided she deserved some attention.



Neela Zohrabi is just one of tens of thousands of Imperial citizens who pilot the teeming shoals of realspace craft within planetary systems. These ships are not the massive, lumbering Imperial Navy warships or sleek interstellar traders, but include pleasure craft, barges, cogs, shuttles, cargo hulks and dozens besides.



I can't say that it's my best work (and the photos don't help either), but she's another painted figure in the bag!

Zohrabi engages a starport functionary to oversee refuelling of her ship.

Whilst I was painting Zohrabi, I also discovered these resin cables sitting on a shelf. I gave them an incredibly basic paintjob, but they're good enough to sit in corners of terrain I guess. I'm not sure where they originally came from, Ainsty perhaps?

    She's absolutely perfect. The colours are extremely good together and everything is "right' about her.
    Now TAHT's a come back !

      Thanks JB! Nice to get that feedback. I must admit, I planned the colours on the fly, other than the white bodysuit. That meant when it came to paint the helmet, I spent a long time agonising over it before going for the gold.

      I need to work out what I'm going to paint next I guess!

    It doesn't look rushed to me, it looks like something from the cover of a sci-fi library book from the early 80s. Perfect.

      That's great, because I was trawling through images of the very same for inspiration - hence the white suit and (eventually) gold helmet :)

    I think she looks lovely. That uniform is ace, and the skin tone is superb. I am struggling with a hobby lull myself. At the moment I have way to many ideas, and not enough time.

      I know the 'too many ideas' issue myself. I'm kind of suffering that at the moment as I've got several projects I could launch into, but none are really grabbing me.

      Glad you like the skin tone. I'm trying to mix in a range of different tones and colours at the moment to keep it interesting.

    Looks pretty awesome to me dude! I can only echo what everyone has already said - lovely colour choice on the uniform & lid, and the flesh tone is spot on! Back with a bang I'd say ��

    Really nice PJ (as usual!), on a surprisingly nice little model. Must admit I've barely touched a brush in months, but actually did a little painting over the weekend.

    How do the Spacelords range stack up against RT figs, sizewise, btw? I'm always in the market for more non-combatants.

      Great to hear you're painting Evo blog pics soon?

      The Spacelords figures I have are within acceptable tolerances I think. This little pilot is 1-1.5mm taller than Astropath Korm for example. I wouldn't hesitate to pick the better sculpts from the selection and mix and match :)

      That's how I read it. There's also a whole load of ports on the inside of her helmet which you can't really see in the photos - again for neural integration perhaps?

    I think that the paint job is more than serviceable. Is this figure vailable from EM4? I do not think I have seen it before.

      Yes - I picked her up from EM4, but I think the range has been ported across to Moonrakerminiatures.com. She's from the starship crew.
