For the Empire! Olley Imperials

I suspect that I'm now getting too deep into the 'Bob Olley does Star Wars' concept. But I'm OK with it! I definitely need an opposing Imperial force to face off against my rebels. It's the logical thing to do, right?

First up are a couple of characters to lead the Imperials - Darth Tevas and General Viers.

Darth Tevas remonstrates a pair of rebel commandos.

Darth Tevas is a fabulous figure that was sculpted by Bob as a private commission for Mr Saturday as a homage to Bad Ash from the Evil Dead series. Mr Saturday made a few copies available, and mine has sat in a box waiting for a suitable project since 2016. Happily, his outfit is pretty close visually to Darth Vader, so with a suitable paint scheme, he fit the bill as a follower of the Dark Side!

General Viers is another obscure Olley sculpt. This time the figure is from the set of six figures released by Steve Jackson Games for Frag. It took me a long time of patiently sitting on eBay to find a set. I'll paint up more of them in due course, but for now, this is Shell Shock masquerading as an AT-AT commander!

The sculpt is smaller and finer than a lot of Bob's work, especially the delicate little face! It might not be obvious in the photos, but I've painted her with two-tone greys (a grey-blue and a grey-green) to mimic General Veers costume in Empire Strikes Back.

I need to paint some Olley Imperial troopers in the near future, but for now I can make do with some stand-ins!

A cornered rebel prepares to sell his life dearly!

  1. It's a delight from both the painting PoV and the model selection, it's got the charm of those italian/ghanean knock offs but with a prime cast !
The whole premise of "what if Bob Olley did..." was fun but now we're seeing how great it is

    1. Thanks very much 🙂

I think there are limits to this project - I can't see it leaching beyond 20 or 30 models. But those 20 or 30 models will be fun, recognisable and affectionate proxies!
