The Zinge Industries kit is designed to fit the GW Astra Militarum Taurox plastic kit. It comprises of a selection of resin add-ons, most notably the wheels to replace the tracks from the original kit. I also added a little remote gun, but I can't recall where it's from.
I assembled the kit, leaving off the rear cover to give me an open rear section where I can place figures. I did fully enclose the driver's cab by adding a few panels from some other kits.
The paint job was stupidly quick - around an hour in total once I'd gone back and painted a few details. The process was:
- Undercoat black
- Drybrush dark grey
- Stipple chocolate brown on lower third
- Drybrush tan (focussing on lower third)
- Sponge weathering with gunmetal
- Paint details (headlights, guns, fuel canisters etc)
All in all, I think it does the job!
That's very nice. I've got one of these somewhere, and I've been thinking of doing a similar paint scheme. I might give it a go now!
ReplyDeleteThanks Toby! I can't wait to see your version if you get round to it :)
DeleteLovely work on the APC!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed you managed to paint it in an hour as I take longer than that to paint 15mm scale vehicles!
Glad you like it. It really was a rough and ready process with a couple of big brushes!
DeletePretty nice! I used the Zinge bits too, it's quite an improvement from the original design. Taking the turret out was also the right choice, I think. I like your paintjob on this one, it looks so menacing!
ReplyDeleteThe Zinge parts really are nice aren't they?! I find leaving the turret off gives a sleeker profile (if you can call a 2.5m high vehicle 'sleek'!).
DeleteNicely done! It fits in very nicely with the troopers.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much :)
DeleteJob most definitely done!
ReplyDeleteGlad you approve :)
DeleteIts amazing how much better that loosk with just a few new parts.
ReplyDeleteI think the tyres and the open back really help change the profile, as well as replacing the turret with a sleeker gun. Thanks!
DeleteThis is very good work. To mack plain black so interesting visually takes a lot of work i.e. weathering and/or adding external details.
ReplyDeleteI did have a worry that it was going to look a bit boring, but hopefully the weathering does the job to lift it!
DeleteI think it looks amazing mate and I can’t even stand the stupid look of the Taurox.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai! I was always pretty neutral about the Taurox, although I know plenty of people have strong feelings about it! I definitely needed to get rid of the tracks though
