BOYL 2017 (Part 3) - Sunday Gaming

This is the third and final overview of my weekend at the Bring Out Your Lead event at Foundry. After a packed Saturday, I'd left Sunday completely unplanned to allow for socialising and perhaps a pick-up game. In the event, I ended up playing in a superb multi-player game of Rogue Trader with some of the guys from the Friday gaming, plus Alex from Leadballony and Aiden from Warfactory.

We worked on the principle of 'put what you have down on the table', which lead to a motley crew of Space Pirates and mercenaries teaming up with underhive scum, Hrud and orks with a huge walker. Opposing these villainous types were two factions of Imperial Guard, supported by a squad of Adeptus Arbites, an Imperial gunship and two squads of Eldar.

Setting up the table.

The table was nicely littered with civilians for added colour.

The view from the walker's control platform.

I can't recall who suggested we use the giant rules for the walker in combat, but it was a great idea!

Imperial troops secure the supply depot.

Is it really that long Asslessman?

Eldar troops wait for the advancing space pirates.

Space pirates swarm the settlement, while the gunship hovers menacingly.

The gunship is downed with the first missile attack against it without firing a shot. Happily the crash and resulting explosion kills about 15 of the bad guys.

The lawmen open fire on the space pirates. Shortly afterwards the pirates exact their revenge!

A brilliant, chaotic and hugely eventful game saw the walker taken out by the sole Eldar survivor (with lascannon), and the Imperial Guard managing to hold fast against the orks.

I also spent a bit of time observing Asslessman's grand Spacefleet game - I suspect this is the best looking and largest game of Spacefleet ever to have taken place, with three enormous fleets (Eldar, Imperial and Tyranid).

And so, after a packed weekend of gaming, I departed to drop people at various staging locations for their return journeys home.

I had a great time meeting old friends and making new ones. I have already started thinking about my plans for 2018, and would urge any of you Oldhammerers to make the trip to BOYL 2018. Thanks to Aiden and Curtis for letting us use the brilliant Helsreach terrain for Grox Herding.

A massive thanks needs to go out to everyone at Foundry who hosted us, fed us and provided us with a great venue. Equally huge thanks to Garth who did all the hard behind the scenes organisation and ensured everything ran brilliantly.

I can't wait until 2018!

  1. That RT game was gorgeous. Remove some t-shirt sleeves, add some mullets and NHS glasses and the photos could be out of Warhammer Siege :)

Its difficult to gush over everything, but the Spacefleet game was amazing to look at.

    1. The RT game was the best RT game I've played. We played a bit fast and loose with some of the rules, used stonking models and had some lovely cinematic moments :)

  5. You lot better keep doing this for a while, so that I (and other unfortunates from far-abroad) can eventually make it out.

So what lead made its way home with you? No "con" report is complete with out that detail...

  8. Yeah, the RT game was a lot of fun. I came up with the idea for using the Giant rules for the Walker coz I wanted to jump on Alexs' tank....it was the first mechanic that popped into my head.

It was disappointing that your spaceship didn't last more than a turn Jon. Would have loved to have seen it dropping bombs in amongst us all. But crashing into the enemy after being shot down by them was way cool too :)

    No army lists + friendly, non-competitive players= fun X 100

    Cheers mate :)

    1. The stomp attack was inspired. I heartily approve!

I'm convinced that the gunship caused more mayhem by crashing than had it remained alive :D
