Industrial Settings - Building a Stage Set (Part 2)

Yesterday I posted my WIP 'stage set', intended to be used inside my Foldio light box when I photograph my figures. What I didn't do was take any photographs showing how the thing works.

Below you can see the set inserted into the Foldio. You can see it sits pretty snugly inside, but still leaves enough height to the inside top of the Foldio where the LED strips are mounted.

And below is an example of what the above set up looks like with a proper cropped image from the required angle.

Brat gangers and Ash Waters shoot out over a set of snaz wheels.
Even close ups with the majority of the background cropped out look pretty nice:

The lighting is relatively simple - a pair of battery-powed LED strips mounted in the Foldio roof. At some point I'd like to improve the lighting, but it will suffice for now.

Finally, I'd not got round to posting this chap yet - the penultimate Marauder Ash Waste Nomad from my gang.

  1. Awesome!

Looks like it works wonderfully. I think I will copy your idea.

I've got the foldio with 2 LED strips, I'll have a play around with it at some point and see what I can come up with.

    Great work :)

  2. Great topic!

Any idea what should I google to find a textured sheed for a floor?
Cannot see anything similar in local stores... =/

    1. Search for textured plasticard. Mine came from a model railway store, but I've used Atenociti's Workshop before: http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/wargaming-materials-tools/sheet-materials/embossed-styrene-sheets/slaters-plasticard.html

    2. I get sheets from 4D model shop in London - they also have an online store.

  4. I love the set, both as a product, and as a concept. I have been kicking around the idea of how to make one of these for a long time, and even went to far as to make a mock up, but I have to say your version is both far more practical, and attractive than what I had been thinking of (although not fully compatible with my goals).

Anyway, looking forward to seeing this finished, and presenting more ideas to steal... I mean motivation for my own project.

    1. Yes, modularity is the one drawback, although variant slot in walls and floors should help. Your card mockup is great though...you should build a final version :)

    2. Yes, I have been slowly finishing a few figures, and they need a backdrop to be shown off with!

    3. A note on modularity and as an aside to my previous comment...

One of the ideas I was mulling over for this would be to use some of the print and build card terrain that out there, like Dave Graffam models.

To make "flats", like stage backdrops, that could be moved around or used in layers to trick perspective (or even posibly printing some slightly small/larger for a forced perspective).

If you have access to a printer, there are quite a few free preview paper models around the web.
