The Insidious Word - Muller Cult Demagogue (and Friends)

I know I've mentioned this before, but I really enjoy theming a group of miniatures around the work of a specific sculptor. My current 40k chaos cult project is built around the late 1990s cultists by Paul Muller, and this next group throws the net a little wider again to include some more of his non-GW work. And if I say so myself, I think they're starting to look pretty cool together!

I wanted to add some more longer ranged weaponry than the standard cult kit of a knife plus pistol. I also fancied a more imposing Demagogue to lead the cult (I'll still use the original Demagogues as unit leaders).

The shotgun comes from the Inquistorial Agents Kill Team set, whereas the Demagogue's weapons are from more recent plastic chaos cultists. His head is from a Dark Fable Egyptian vampire sculpted by Paul.

I also wanted to use some of the Gorkamorka mutie bits sculpted by Paul. A snagga torso plus a cultist lower body gives me a cool scout or ranger type (or possibly he has reached 'enlightened' status).

With the colour scheme already set, it was a fairly quick job to paint these up, plus another one of the excellent Cauldron Born Miniatures torture nubbins to accompany the Demagogue.

I deliberately painted the 'enlightened' cultist as if he's on his way to morphing into a brute (see previous post

The Demagogue got a ramp up of red in his colour scheme. I especially like it on his natty high priest hat. I'm very pleased with how well the nonchalant servo claw fits the pose.

I've got plenty more cultists to come, having picked up some more on the second-hand market. Hopefully I'll work through some over the next few weeks as the word of the Demagogue spreads!

  1. Very nice conversions. I really like the skin tones you've used on these guys: still human, but suitably sickly. Great stuff!

    1. Thanks Toby. I like using this skin colour - I reckon they've been hiding in the shadows and secretly plotting. They need to get put in the fresh air more!

  2. You set the standard so high that any of your works look out of this world. Seriously, these conversions show your apporach, the way you envision the project and even tell a story by themselves. Congratulations, this is awesome (again!)

    1. Thanks so much Suber 🙏 i probably spent a disproportionate amount of time planning conversions, but it evidently pays off!!

  3. Beautiful work again. Your demagogue looks fantastic as a nefarious leader.

  4. The work you do with these metal minis is really inspiring stuff! Also any idea where I could get some of those little creepy Torture Nubbins of my own? They're fantastic. Thanks and keep up the hard work!

    1. Thanks very much! Somehow I find working with metal much easier than plastic. Possibly because it's more predictable? Try Cauldron Born Miniatures for the Torture Nubbins - that's where mine came from: https://www.facebook.com/share/1ZP4sf9ahE/

Really love what you're doing with these classic sculpts by Paul Muller. Especially considering they're metal it's pretty amazing! Keep it up!
