Back in 2016 Michael Anderson sculpted me a fantastic set of sci-fi civilians for my fledgling Colony 87 range (now available through Crooked Dice). One of my very favourite figures from the range was High Priestess Cardinia. On a completely unrelated matter, in July 2017 Warlord released a limited edition alien mercenary for their Gates of Antares range. The figure is now freely available to purchase through the Warlord website, but in 2017 the only way to pick the figure up was to attend the Antares open day in person. Both figures have been sat in my boxes for years, just waiting for some paint!
I decided that the two unrelated figures might work nicely as an astropath and her enigmatic xenos bodyguard. With complimentary paint schemes, I think it's worked out, in spite of the completely different styles.
High Priestess Cardinia is a lovely diminutive sculpt, complete with a pet felid. I steered away from the bottle green I've used on many of my other astropaths' robes for a bit of variety.

Very nice indeed. I didn't realise you were behind Colony 47! I wasn't sure about the big alien guy when I first saw him, but I think your paint scheme really makes him work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Toby! Yeah, I started Colony 87 a few years back after trying and failing to source nice sci-fi civilians. Crooked Dice picked up the range and have taken it on to bigger and better things since though!
DeleteA lovely pair indeed. The priestess is a wonderful sculpt and you've sold the bodyguard very well. I suspect you're right, that it is a quite different style. But your palette and painting style bring them together so seamlessly I'm not sure I'd have even thought about it if you hadn't mentioned it. Well done!

Fantastic colors on these two models. I absolutely love the pair of small but powerful Astropath and her large and imposing loyal bodyguard. They look great together! As I said on FB, now you have me looking into the Gates of Antares range which I had previously missed.

Priestess tho needs to be wary of the Inquisition, doubt they’d suffer the presence of a hulking xenos, registered bodyguard or no!
I started the C87 range, but sold it on to Crooked Dice a couple of years ago. I'm not directly involved any more, so you'd have to get in touch with Crooked Dice directly about US distribution.

DeleteThese are excellent! I recently touched up my priestess- she's probably my favorite of all the Colony 87 gigs so far. Now I need to paint the alien guy who's been sitting in a box for a few years now. Your colors for him are inspiring.
