A very quick update just to show off the display base that I made for Johnny Alpha and his companions.
I didn't take any pics of the unpainted base, so you'll have to make do with the painted ones! The base itself is a resin display plinth from Model Display Products. I drilled the three recesses for the bases, before texturing the top surface with sand and some pieces of a cork placemat to represent broken concrete.
The sign was made from a length of brass tube with some small pieces of plasticard glued to it, and the scrap metal on the ground was made from a few scraps of textured plasticard.
I painted the whole lot with grey ground with some rusty metal and rust patches, before adding a selection of tufts.
I attempted to paint a warning sign in a 2000AD style font, then added a couple of wanted posters made from some small pieces of paper and glued on to the notice plates. I figured it didn't matter if you couldn't read the wanted posters!!
I'm pretty pleased with the outcome - it certainly gives a nice display base for Johnny and the gang in the cabinet!
Nicely done, and very much in my wheelhouse at the moment :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a fun setting - one I'd like to delve deeper into. Cheers cheetor!
DeleteNice! I think you found the balance between an interesting display and a not too overdone base that would distract the eye from the actual models. Sweet!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suber! I wanted to hit that balance- enough to give a sense of the universe that the figures inhabit without overwhelming them.
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kym!
DeleteReally nice. The small bit of decor on the base doesn't detract from the gorgeous minis too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dai! That's what I was hoping for :)
DeleteIt's lovely and perfect to frame a cool set of models like here. You have quite a few nice ones now !
ReplyDeleteThanks JB! Yeah, I enjoy making them as you don't need to concentrate as much as when painting figures - a bit of a refresher really!
DeleteNice work on them all
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon :)
DeleteThose posters were definitely a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Sometimes it's the little details that maje the difference :)
DeleteIt's a great idea for a display base. I like the detail.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sean. I like doing these - they pack a good deal of punch for minimal effort!
DeleteNice way of working up the trio for display.
ReplyDeleteThanks Curis. I think it helps to avoid them getting lost in the cabinet too!
