It's a nice thing when you close out a project, especially when it's for one of your favourite game settings, and one of your favourite ranges of figures.
In this case it's my Maniac Confrontation gang, and the neglected leader. The Maniac leader is a gorgeous sculpt - dynamic, crisply sculpted and packed with nice little details.
Early on I decided I wanted him to be a little more ostentatious than his goons, so he got a checked pattern to his jacket (never again!!).
He also received the standard white eye stripe (Helsreach mercenaries in my current gaming group's campaign).
Here's the 4 painted Confrontation models together. I can't recall having seen a painted quartet ever before - anyone else?
And the full Maniac gang with various carefully selected additions.
The Maniax defend a hastily constructed barricade in a warehouse. |
So, which Confrontation gang do I make next?!
First and only Maniax gang I know of but he'll be the best for a good while.
ReplyDeleteSimply a flawless group here.
It gives me a bit of a thrill to think these might be the first painted Maniacs for 25 years or more...or possibly ever!
DeleteTremendously cool guy, great pose and you made the best of it!
ReplyDeleteCheers Suber! It's a lovely figure :)
DeleteGreat group amazing checks
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them! The checks were a real trial though!
DeleteFabulous, Well worth the effort on the checks
ReplyDeleteThanks! As the leader, he did need some extra attention.
DeleteSpot on mate, lovely group if minis. Kudos on the face paint! I have tried so many times but find it really hard, so it is great to see it done well :-)
ReplyDeleteI confess I just did a very cheaty off-white stripe then a wash in the eye sockets for the face paint. It seemed to come up OK...although I suspect there are probably other techniques for better results :)
DeleteLooks good to me mate, I'll be trying that approach out!
DeleteGood luck! Looking forward to seeing how you get on.
DeleteGreat model; excellent gang!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They've been a real pleasure to put together :)
DeleteThats a great gang Axiom, Im looking forward to gaming with/against it.
ReplyDeleteIs the flak jacket quilted? I would have thought that if it was it would make painting the checks significantly easier than doing it freehand.
Yes, it's a quilted jacket, so it was easier than freehanding. The difficulty was how to continue the pattern around the figure and under all the layered detail over the jacket - there were inconsistencies in the sculpted pattern, which made life much more difficult!
DeleteMy goodness, what a great addition to an already splendid group.
ReplyDeleteThe white stripe makes me think of Adam Ant personally.
The whole gang looks excellent. Beautiful lot.
ReplyDeleteThe Rogue Trader era stuff is great. I was just going through my copy of the Rogue Trader book today - coincidentally looking at Helsreach mercenaries.
