Rebel Scum - Iron Claw Space Pirates

Although it's an acquired taste, I really like Bob Olley's sculpting style. The heavily creased cloth and exaggerated faces make for fun miniatures to paint. Over the weekend, I was chatting with my friend Mr Saturday over the delights of Olley figures and upcoming projects. Then we played a massive game of the Battle of Hoth.

When I got home, I couldn't resist digging out my Iron Claw space pirates and a few ancillary Olley sculpts. "I bet they would look good painted up as rebel commandos", I thought...

These are the first four of what will initially be a 10-strong group (for use in Stargrave). There are actually 17 Iron Claw space pirates and I'll get round to them all eventually, but for now I want to pick a strongly-themed group. All three of the space pirates have a nice rebel vibe (it's almost as if Bob was basing them on something!). I painted them up in the grey/brown/tan/khaki colours that are typical of rebel commandos.

Attitude Gorman is probably a rebel officer of some sort with his hat. I painted the doo-dad on his chest as if it was his rank badge.

'Pop' Stewart is cleary a grizzled veteran who is continuing to fight for the cause. He got grey hair because he's clearly advancing in years!

Little Rico seems like a mouthy anti-authority type to me. He does have a funky gun though!

And finally, no rebel unit is complete without a big hairy alien to add some muscle. This guy is a later Olley sculpt for the Killer B Games 'Galactic Adventures in the Fourth Dimension of the Forbidden Zone' range. The range is 40mm, so most of the human sculpts aren't any use in 28mm gaming, but Rukbat (the alien bodyguard) works nicely!

Rukbat doesn't appear to be available from Killer B at the moment unfortunately.
