I wanted to try and keep with Jes Goodwin sculpts for the majority of my Mordheim possessed warband. This is a little tricky as most of his fantasy miniatures are either armoured or elves, or both! The brethren have been causing me a few headaches (being low-rate humans with minimal armour and poor quality gear).
I ended up starting with a couple of converted figures for this first pair of brethren, and I'm hoping they might provide a template for future additions.
The bare-headed brother is probably familiar to any of you who saw my Confrontation project - he's essentially just a scavvy with new arms. The arms came from one of Jes' classic beastmen:
The second brother was simply an over-sculpt of the same beastman who donated arms to the scavvy. I sculpted the robe and hood using Jes Goodwin skaven as references, then added a few more details just to add interest to the figure.
A simple line of putty across the cheeks has allowed me to render the beastman's face as a bestial mask. The sculpting isn't as crisp as it might be, but it's good enough!
The paint jobs follow the scheme I've already established with the earlier figures. The brethren are marked out by their red masks - something I'll aim to repeat on any future brethren.
It's looking like the Mordheim campaign weekend is going to be pushed back to Dec, or even early 2027, but that suits me - I've got quite a few more figures I need to get finished before then!

Fantastic, they have just the right character for Mordheim, I love that they'll soon develop personalities of their own dictated by their tabletop prowesses
ReplyDeleteThanks JB. I can already tell that my favourite (the scavvy) will prove to be an utterly useless shot carrying a mainly ornamental bow and quiver 😄
DeleteThese are awesome, and great use of the Beastman archer and a Scavvy. I always liked the idea of somehow sneaking 40k miniatures into fantasy armies, but it only really happened the other way around. Really lovely conversions and painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee! I suspect that I'd never have made these if Jes had sculpted a set of scraggy fantasy fighters, but it's nice to make some cool figs when he didn't get round to making any!
DeleteI'm surprised you haven't used some of Jes Goodwin's Skaven Plaguemonks yet; cutting away the tails and hollowing out the hoods, greenstuff masks and feet...
ReplyDeleteI thought about it, but the anatomy isn't quite human enough (not that necessarily is an issue 😄).
DeleteGreat work on these. Clever use of the scavvy, and fantastic painting on both of them.
ReplyDeleteBill.
Thanks Bill!
