Come to Papa - a Scavvy Champion

Building on the three scavvies from my last post, I wanted to add in some cool characters to the gang. Obviously the Scavvy King will make an appearance down the line, but he can't be the only scavvy of note. That's where Papa Zhon comes in. I picked up the palanquin-less Nurgle champion an age ago, and he's been patiently waiting for the right project to come along. I reckon a motorised chair for an aging scavvy is exactly the right use for him!!

Papa Zhon directs his scavvies to collect more valuable scrap.

The figure is essentially the Nurgle champion sat on a RT land speeder chair and stuck onto a plastic Epic land raider. The flamer is from a Tau battlesuit kit I think, and the rest of the ornaments and details came from my bits box.

It did take a long time to work out the colour scheme on Papa Zhon as there were so many details. I agonised on whether he would have a dull brown robe and hood, but in the end I decided to make it more interesting with the dark blue-green. I added the stripes near to the end as the hood was looking a little boring.

I couldn't resist painting his big flamer button red (for emergencies!).

I don't think the little imps are nurglings. Probably something equally unpleasant, but native to Necromunda.

I suspect that Papa Zhon has the ear of the King - either as his trusted advisor, or possibly as a deceitful and ambitious rival...

  2. I know I've said this before, but you are a total genius. The way you envision a final result just from scratch is amazing. You make all your work look seamless. Well done!

  4. This Nurgle palanquin rider has always been my favourite of the 4, I absolutely love tht you repruposed him into scavvies, keeping the Jes vibe.
The pattern on his hood is also excellent, really adds an ethnic/cultural background to the character

    1. I agree, he's the best of the riders. I am trying to keep this crew as Jes-centric as I can - I think it helps to keep the visual identity.

      Glad you like the hood!

  5. That's a really nice conversion - great use of a really unusual range of bits. He looks suitably grand and rancid to be leading a horde of scavvies.

    1. Thanks Toby. I had originally planned to sit him on the old Ork Boss warbike seat, but it was too high and small. He needed something a little more comfortable!!

  6. An epic land raider as chair mobility is genius mate! What a great mash of bits and parts! Lovely work mate and I like the little background fluff too.

    1. Thanks Dai - I quite like the nonsense element of using a 6mm task for a 28mm figure to sit on. Almost as if he's sitting on a remote controlled car!

  8. Inspired use of an epic landraider. I figured it was a ramshackle games bit at first. Awesome work (as usual it seems for you)!

    1. Thanks very much! I just happened to have a bunch of those land raiders sat with no purpose - figured I'd make use of one 🙂

    1. Thanks Brauwan. I'm still mentally working through the colour scheme for the king - it's such a detailed miniature!

  10. Supercool conversion!
Personally I don't think I'd dare to sacrifice Nurgle Palaquin as conversion bit, but it's great I can see achievements of much braver fellow-hobbyists 😎

    1. Thanks! I didn't have the rest of the palanquin, so I figured the rider was fair game 🙂
